BOTOX® Cosmetic

When you frown or concentrate, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold. When you squint, the muscles around your eyes contract and cause wrinkles around the eyes, also known as crow’s feet. BOTOX® Cosmetic is an injectable form of Botulinum Toxin that temporarily improves the look of moderate to severe crow’s feet, frown lines and forehead furrows. Botox is injected into muscles, causing the muscles to relax. The effects of Botox will last four to six months. As muscle action gradually returns, the lines and wrinkles may begin to return and need to be treated again. When performed by experienced dermatologists, Botox injections are safe. Dr. M. David Cole, MD is a board-certified dermatologist with the experience necessary to provide Botox safely and to achieve the best results.

Dysport

Dysport is also an injectable form of Botulinum Toxin Type A. It is injected into muscles to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows. Like BOTOX Cosmetic, it works beneath the skin targeting the underlying muscle that causes frown lines and crow’s feet. The effects of Dysport will last four to six months. Both Botox and Dysport have a high safety profile and both can be used in other parts of the face. Both have similar efficacy and side effects. Most important is the skill of the dermatologist injecting Botox or Dysport. Dr. Cole will help you decide which treatment is right for you. The dermatologists at Horizon Dermatology have the skills and experience to enhance your look and meet your needs.

Juvederm

Juvederm is a dermal filler that helps reduce the appearance of aging by diminishing the look of wrinkles and creases. Juvederm is FDA approved to plump and soften deep facial folds and wrinkles. It is used to treat moderate to severe wrinkles and folds around your mouth (smile lines), nasolabial folds (Lines from the corners of the nose to the corners of the mouth), marionette lines (vertical wrinkles at the corners of your mouth), and vertical lip lines. Juvederm is used for lip enhancement, to fill fine lines around the mouth, and fill in under-eye hollows, and acne scars. Results can last up to a year. Juvederm can provide a smoother fill than other products on the market. Side effects are generally mild and short-lived.

Juvederm is made of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is made in the body, but as we age and with harmful UV sun exposure, the supply diminishes contributing to facial aging. There are different strengths of Juvederm based desired goal:

  • Juvederm Ultra is a versatile basic filler used to treat superficial lines and is ideal for thin and sensitive skin. Ultra Plus works best for deeper facial lines and creases.
  • Juvederm XC fills and lifts severe wrinkles around the nose and mouth, and adds volume. It lasts about a year.
  • Voluma XC addresses sagging cheeks due to age related volume loss, provides contour and can give you a subtle lift for up to two years. It is the only FDA product on the market approved to add volume to your midface and cheeks.

Dr. M. David Cole, MD will evaluate your face, discuss your goals and offer an expert opinion as to which product is best for you.

Restylane

Similar to Juvederm, the Restylane family of fillers are used to add volume and fullness to correct moderate to severe wrinkles and folds, and it is the only product FDA approved for lip enhancement. Restylane is a clear gel of hyaluronic acid formulated to act like your body’snaturally produced hyaluronic acid, adding volume, lifting and smoothing wrinkles. It can last up to six months but some patients experience effects lasting for up to a year.

While Restylane and Juvederm are both hyaluronic acid products, and can be used to treat similar conditions. After evaluating your skin and goals, Dr. M. David Cole, MD will recommend the best choice for you.

Sculptra

Sculptra is a revolutionary treatment and filler product, which helps your body to replace collagen lost due to aging. It is a collagen stimulator (biostimulator) used to diminish wrinkles while restoring the underlying structure of the skin. By restoring volume, Sculptra offers a fullness and youthfulness not obtainable by face-lift or dermal fillers alone.

Collagen is a structural compound that keeps skin looking young, full and smooth. As we age, our own collagen production decreases and wrinkles appear. Sculptra simulates your skin to generate collagen, creating a lift and restoring lost facial volume for a youthful, natural result.

It does not work overnight. Rather, it provides subtle results over time, giving you a natural look. A complete treatment is typically three injections spread over the course of several months to correct shallow to deep wrinkles and folds for more than two years. Touch up treatments are important to maintain the benefits.

Made of poly-L-lactic acid, Sculptra is designed to fight facial fat loss. It can be used in the cheeks and temples, and for deep wrinkles and folds. Sculptra is more difficult to inject than other fillers, so it is vital to have skilled and experienced doctors like Dr. M. David Cole, MD.

Radiesse

Like Sculptra, Radiesse is a collage stimulator, made of calcium hydroxyalpatite that works below the skin to fill areas of volume loss. It is also used to fill deep skin folds but is very versatile for facial contouring, and can be used in areas where large volume is required.

Radiesse provides immediate and longer term results, temporarily filling and plumping winkles and folds, while stimulating collagen production and encouraging tissue growth. It can shape cheeks, chin, nose, and jaw line and fill deep nasolabial folds. It lasts about two years. Radiesse is a valuable option for soft, natural look and feel.
